More
than 300 food and drink aficionados packed the Delano Mansion at the Woodlands in Woodbury
on May 12, 2009, for Chefs Cook for Kids, an epicurean event that raised over $100,000 to
support the Child Life & Education Services Program at Schneider Children’s Hospital
(SCH), a member of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
Chefs
and representatives from over 20 local restaurants and vineyards provided generous samples
of their wares, and a number of exciting prizes were offered through a live auction and
raffles.

celebrity chef and Chef Chairman for the event Tom Schaudel (below) was also on hand to
personally sign his new book titled “Playing With Fire: Whining & Dining on the Gold Coast”.
This book is filled with vignettes of difficult customers, stressed-out
cooks, harried wait staff, and the truly disturbed, and takes an affectionate romp through
Tom Schaudel’s restaurants to introduce you to the most memorable cast of characters
he’s experienced in his forty years in the business.
The Child Life & Education Services Program at
Schneider Children’s Hospital is designed to alleviate the trauma experienced by
