The Chef's of Long Island
Thursday, April 17th, 2008

We participated in an exquisite culinary experience on Thursday, April 17, 2008, called The Chef’s of Long Island at the Jericho Terrace.  The event was held to help raise funds for Life’s WORC, a not-for profit agency that provides comprehensive support to individuals with developmental disabilities including mental retardation and Autism.

As we made our way through the beautiful Jericho Terrace and into the tasting room, we were welcomed by a medley of aromas from dozens of fine restaurants.  Music filled the air while a variety of fine wines were being sampled.

So many of these eateries brought delicious items for sampling.  Some of the restaurants we sampled had dishes we thought were noteworthy.

At Piccolo’s Ristorante (below left)  we tried Chicken Zingarella, which was a thin breast of chicken sautéed in a pink marsala sauce that was exceptional.  Piccolo’s also brought some of their famous homemade ravioli.  We tried the spinach ravioli in a semi-sweet vodka sauce with chunks of tomato that was incredibly fresh and creamy.

Calagero’s (above right) restaurant had an interesting spin on baked ziti that included Gorgonzola cheese.  We felt the Gorgonzola brought a little extra special something to the dish.

Thom Thom (below left)  had a beautiful display and provided attendees with sushi “pizza” and bacon wrapped scallops.  Their Sushi “Pizza” consisted of a sushi rice pizza shell, salmon, tuna, crab, shrimp and avocado.  This sampling was as tasty as it was creative.  The delectable jumbo scallops were tender and enrobed with crispy bacon. Their sister restaurant, Delano Mansion (below right), brought a wonderful crab risotto.

Another big hit of the night was the braised short ribs prepared by Mill Pond House (below left). They were tender, juicy and mouth watering with thick and hearty gravy.

Exquisitely Delicious Catering also has some noteworthy offerings including their pulled pork and baked home-style Mac and Cheese.  Their pulled pork was exceptionally moist with just the perfect amount of sweet barbeque sauce.  Their Mac and Cheese brought comfort food to a new level.

In addition to the eateries we have already mentioned, the following is a list of restaurants, caterers, and gourmet shops  that also participated by donating their time and food -

American Classic Specialties Corp (above right), Epiphany Restaurant, Tom Cat Bakery, Starbucks Coffee, Moe's Southwest Grill (below left), Wings Plus, Fianci's Paninoteca, Chester Mountain Spring Water, The Woodlands Catering, Garden City Hotel, Junior's Chesse Cake, Page One Restaurant, Morton's the Steakhouse (below middle), Uncle Bacala's, Patrick's East Side Grille (below right), Piccola Bussola, Cardinali Bakery, Piccolo Mondo Ristorante, Piccolo of Huntington, Quartz Caterers, and Steward Spirits Shop.
