Long Island’s Fight For Charity 2008
November 24, 2008

The 5th Annual Fight for Charity took place on November 24, 2008 at the Hilton Long Island in Melville with about 1,200 people in attendance. The idea that people once thought was crazy, is now one of the most anticipated events on Long Island. The event starts with tastings from many Long Island restaurants and beverage companies.

With more than 10 bouts and dozens of participating businesses, the event is one of the largest and most exciting. Bob Venero, a local businessman, stepped into the ring to fight for charity. When the Long Island Fight for Charity announced Michael Lohan’s spot was up for bid, the CEO of Future Tech Enterprise immediately stepped up to the challenge.

Bob outbid his competitors and paid $30,000 to take the opportunity to jump into the ring and support the cause. Michael Lohan (Lindsey Lohan’s Father), still on parole, was forced out of the boxing match because the parole board refused to let him participate.

This event raised well over $100,000 for charities including: Long Island Community Chest, The Genesis School and Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. To date, the four previous year’s events have raised more than $420,000 for local charities, and this is something we all should be proud of!

While the boxing matches are fun and important, they are just the tool they use to accomplish their mission, which is to raise funds to support the recipient charities and spread the word of their vital programs and services. We should all be so proud and pleased that the funds will impact the lives of thousands of families this year in our local community and home, Long Island.
