Gatsby Style: A Roaring Twenties Party
|
The event started outside, with flappers, gangsters and old model Fords from 1928 through 1930. A Sports Coop, Town Sedan and a Coop Deluxe were amongst the cars on display for guests to admire. Accompanying these attractive autos from days gone by were their owners, dressed in garb to match their cars and willing to share a wealth of knowledge pertaining to both their vehicles and the era they populated. The friendly owners were more than willing to strike a pose for guests seeking a photo-op.
The main event took place inside the mansion, with a vast variety of food, games and entertainment. The authenticity of the mansion helped transport those in attendance to the twenties, with era-appropriate décor and food. A steady flow of food and beverage made its way to each guest, with offerings including shrimp cocktail, wines and cheeses.
The samplings were not secluded to 1920’s inspired dishes; guests were also given the opportunity to taste bacon wrapped scallops, chickpea fries, black bean salsa in a phyllo paper cup, tomato and fresh mozzarella bruschetta, and chicken on a stick, which was served on a platter with various sauces, most notably dragon sauce and spicy mayo. The array of food offered was a selection befitting Jay Gatsby - from simple, to reflect his modest start, to extravagant, showcasing his acquired wealth. The Gold Coast mansion not only had great food, but the overall ambiance of the party was key to its success. To add to the fun of the costumes, there was a Best Gatsby Outfit Contest to inspire the guests to give it their all when it came to their attire. As The Great Gatsby and the Roaring Twenties become a rejuvenated, prevailing force, you will surely see more themed parties that bridge generational gaps with the shared love of a wonderful book and a remarkable era. The Chateau at Coindre Hall has certainly provided an extraordinary example of just how elegant and enjoyable these parties can be.
