Taste of the Harvest
Celebration
|
Island Harvest is the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island. They rely on their generous volunteers, in-kind services and donated food and 95 cents of every dollar contributed goes directly to the benefit of their programs. This year Island Harvest celebrates 20 amazing years of service. Since their birth in 1992, they've distributed over 79 million pounds of food to those in need across Long Island. They've also been actively engaged in education, outreach and advocacy programs, as well as referral services to help those in crisis.
The annual Taste of the Harvest Celebration was held at the exquisite Crest Hollow Country Club on Tuesday, October 23, 2012. This event was held to benefit Island Harvest and honor Stop and Shop, who was presented with the Above and Beyond Award. This award recognizes Stop and Shop for their dedication of extraordinary service in assisting Island Harvest to fight hunger and reduce food waste in the Long Island community.
Long Island Food Critic Awards were presented in three categories this evening. In the Best Of Show - Savory category, The Metropolitan was awarded for their crispy polenta atop cauliflower puree and baby spinach, which people raved about throughout the evening. Executive chef, James Lotker was on hand to accept the award. Cold Spring Country Club won for Best Of Show - Dessert for their green tea sponge cake with yuzu, crème and sesame tuile. Pastry chef S. Ruperto Marquina accepted the award for his sweet indulgence. The third and final award was presented to Chef Tom Schaudel of Jewel for Best Of Show - Chef. The seafood gumbo he prepared for the evening was just delicious and full of flavor.
Steve and Leeana from KJOY Long Island’s Morning Show served as Guest MC’s for the evening. Along with them, a number of generous restaurants, country clubs, bakeries and many other establishments came together and donated their product and their time to make this fund raising evening possible.
