Island Harvest is the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island. They rely on their generous volunteers, in-kind services and donated food and 95 cents of every dollar contributed goes directly to the benefit of their programs. Since their birth in 1992, Island Harvest has distributed over 79 million pounds of food to those in need across Long Island.
The Taste of the Harvest Celebration was an atypical fundraising dinner where an array of Long Island's finest restaurants, caterers, country clubs and other outstanding food establishments unite to offer guests a sumptuous evening of sampling a wide-variety of gourmet food and desserts — all to help raise much needed funds for Island Harvest to continue to provide food and related support to more than 300,000 Long Islanders who struggle with hunger every day.
Newsday Charities, a McCormick Foundation Fund, was honored at this year's Taste of the Harvest Celebration for its generous funding of hunger-relief efforts on Long Island. Newsday Charities is dedicated to assisting those less fortunate improve their lives and become self-sufficient by making grants to nonprofit organizations with programs focused on child abuse prevention and treatment, child and youth education, housing, and hunger.
