Spuntino is an Italian restaurant and upscale pizzeria located in Dix Hills in the Pathmark shopping center and has been in business for roughly five years now. The restaurant is newly expanded and features the new addition of a bar and private party room (below). The dining area is comfortable, features subdued lighting and soft oldies music plays in the background as you dine. As we perused the menu we were pleasantly surprised as the menu features an abundance of intriguing choices.
Owners,
Joe Serrano and Ben LoManto are extremely passionate about their restaurant. Joe
was introduced to the restaurant business at a ripe, young age because his
family was in the business. He began as a dishwasher and worked his way into the
kitchen. Cooking has always been a passion of his. Like Joe, Ben has also been
in the business for many years and his son, Michael is also involved with the
restaurant. All partners are hands on operators and work together to oversee
every aspect of their business, including their delicious original recipes
inspired by both Joe and Ben. We began our experience with Joe's favorite dish, The Linguine di Mare (below left). This simple and traditional dish features an ample portion of shrimp, mussels and New Zealand and little neck clams sautéed in your choice of marinara, fra diavolo or roasted garlic and virgin olive oil. The smell alone is reason enough to order this entree. The presentation was beautiful, both the seafood and linguine were prepared perfectly and the hearty sauce had a becoming texture and coated the pasta nicely.
The
best way to describe this next dish is simply, "unbelievable".
The Steak Bianco is a flank steak topped with Portobello mushrooms, caramelized
onions, Gorgonzola cheese, on a bed of baby spinach and simmered in a Gorgonzola
cheese sauce (above right). The steak was remarkably tender, the sweet onions
were the perfect additive and the rich, Gorgonzola sauce was just right offering
a minute tang to our taste buds. All the components of the dish blended
thoroughly together allowing us to deem this wonderful entree as a true gem on
the menu. As for seafood dishes, we can confidently recommend the Walnut Encrusted Salmon which features perfectly cooked salmon simmered in a white wine and garlic cream sauce with tender julienne squash and vegetables (below left). A liking for walnuts is a must when it comes to this dish. They were a pleasant and unique accompaniment to an entree of this kind.
Our final entree was the Veal Monachina, a fried veal cutlet topped with mozzarella cheese and simmered in a Marsala wine sauce (above right). This was a simple dish that offered a profusion of flavors. The tender veal was amply coated in the dark, flavorful Marsala sauce. This entree is traditional and very inviting.
For dessert we were treated to some Tiramisu, Cheesecake and a Cannoli. The Tiramisu was moist and featured a nice, subtle hint of coffee flavor (above left). The New York Style Cheesecake was rich and delicious (above right) and the Cannoli was fresh and filled with smooth and sugary cream (below left). To round out our dessert experience we were brought a fresh, hot cup of delicious Cappuccino to enjoy (below right).
The experience at Spuntino was truly exceptional and memorable. Their extensive menu features something for everyone to enjoy with a variety of healthy choices including a number of salads, whole-wheat pastas, fresh fish and grilled chicken entrees. For the price, convenience, attentive service and comprehensive menu, Spuntino is the ideal place to visit with friends and family.
