Colombian With An Italian Flair Upon entering Vivo Osteria, the scent from the wood burning oven captivates the senses and is reminiscent of an Italian restaurant. It's not until you peruse the menu that you realize there is a considerable influence of Columbian flavors and dishes. It's the marriage of these cooking styles that lets you realize this warm and cozy place is very special.
Crafted from an old family recipe passed down from generation to generation, the empanadas (below left) have a perfect crispy cornmeal breading which gives way to a soft and tender stuffing of potatoes and shredded beef - surely the ultimate comfort food.
Truffle rice balls or Arancini (above right) were packed with rich and creamy savory goodness and accompanied by a delightful buttery shallot sauce.
The real crowd pleaser was their mixed grill (above) which literally had something for everyone. This dish was an ideal sampling comprised of grilled skirt steak, marinated pork loin, chorizo sausage and chicharrones accompanied by sweet Plantains and Yuca fries popular in Columbia.
The golden brown filet of sole (above left) in a traditional franchese sauce was tender, delicate and mouthwatering. The roasted fingerling potatoes and sautéed spinach balanced out this delicious entree. The beautifully crafted Passion Fruit Panna Cotta (above right) was a masterpiece of design and flavor. The rich creaminess of the traditional Italian panna cotta was met with the simple sweetness of passion fruit, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries.
