Kosher French Steakhouse With Old World Charm

Bistro Grill Steak Masters is a Kosher French Steakhouse located in the heart of Great Neck. The restaurant gives off a very calm ambiance as the large, open dining area is painted in light, soft earth tones. There are candles lit on every table and the subdued lighting sets the tone for the relaxing, pleasurable evening that awaits.

As we took in our elegant surroundings we were presented with a bottle of cold, distilled, thirst-quenching water alongside a complimentary breadbasket filled with hot, crunchy Italian bread.

We started our meal with the Asian Beef Salad which features tender, sautéed strip beef with spring onions and sesame seeds over organic mixed greens in a sesame teriyaki sauce (below left). Served in a large salad boat, this starter is great to share amongst others and is a nice, light first course that offers an abundance of delectable flavors. The dressing is light and delicate and this delicious salad is one of eight available on the menu to choose from.

Next we were treated to some Peking Duck (above right). The chopped, marinated duck was wrapped in a wonton shell, served with a poached Asian pear and topped with a ginger teriyaki dressing. The overall presentation of the dish was unexpected and extremely creative as it was attractively presented in a pear shape. The seasoning of the duck was flawless and the crispy, crunchy wonton wrapping was a delight.

We were then served the Bistro Sampler which consists of Mini Peking Duck (below left), Mini Merguez, Mini Beef Teriyaki Skewers,  Moroccan Cigars (below right) and Chicken Tex Mex. The Mini Peking Duck was a mini version of what we previously sampled and was again a delicious treat. The Moroccan Cigars were crunchy and scrumptious. The Mini Merguez was tasteful and the Chicken Tex Mex, a spicy delight. The unanimous favorite were the Mini Beef Teriyaki Skewers. The beef was very tender and full of luscious teriyaki flavor.

The Florida Style "Crab Cakes" were a pleasant treat. They are lightly seasoned, covered in a crispy coating and served with avocado guacamole and spicy tomato salsa. There was also a small portion of wasabi cream for those who desire some heat.

Our first entree was the Marinated Grilled Chicken Cutlet accompanied by rice pilaf and sautéed mixed vegetables (below left). Served with a side of mushroom sauce, the chicken was nicely cooked, thin and tender. The rice was moist and not dry and the vegetables were soft and nicely grilled. Overall the dish was light and flavorsome and the mushroom sauce was a model accompaniment to the dish.

The Prime Rib was attractively grilled, served on the bone and smelt delicious as it approached the table (above right). It was served atop a bed of fresh mushrooms and potatoes that were sautéed and filled with flavors from the meat. The steak was tender and cooked to perfection and featured a nice char flavor from the grill. It was a quintessential meat and potatoes dish.

Next from the kitchen was the Steak au 3 Poivres, a pepper steak made with three different kinds of peppercorns. The tender steak was prepared with pepper-encrusted tournedos, topped with brandy flambé peppercorn sauce and served atop a bed of smooth, creamy Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes. The dish had an appropriate level of peppered heat and to our surprise, the peppercorns weren’t too overpowering.

Our final entree was the Chilean Sea Bass (above right). Imported from the Pacific Ocean, the delicate and perfectly cooked Sea Bass was encrusted with sesame and served with an Asian teriyaki sauce and stir fried vegetables. The presentation was very artsy and the coating was thin and crispy. The addition of the stir-fry to this dish gave it
an inventive Asian fusion.

All of the desserts served at Bistro Grill Steak Masters are fresh and homemade. We sampled four tasty desserts: the Chocolate Molten Cake, Chocolate Mousse, Apple Tart and Crème Caramel.

The Chocolate Molten cake was sweet and rich and the kosher ice cream served alongside was surprisingly tasty (below left). The Chocolate Mousse was topped with whipped cream and offered a rush of chocolate to our taste buds (below right).

The Apple Tart featured thinly sliced apples densely layered to enhance the flavor of the dessert and was served with a scoop of kosher vanilla ice cream (below left). The Crème Caramel was a vanilla flan topped with whipped cream and served in a pool of caramel (below right). The caramel was nice and light and the dessert offered a good consistency.

Our overall experience at Bistro Grill Steak Masters was very much a pleasurable one. The kitchen performs an admirable presentation on all of their dishes and desserts without the use of diary. The food, the ambiance and the impeccable service will give you reason enough to return again.
