An Impressive Steakhouse In Rocky Point

Spiro’s Lounge is a newly opened, fine dining steakhouse out east in Rocky Point. Family owned and operated by Spiro Karachopan, owner of Sea Basin Restaurant located just down the road, Spiro’s Lounge is upscale, trendy and geared towards a younger crowd.

It took Spiro about 14 years to decide what to do with the land that would one day become Spiro’s Lounge, but with the help of his brother and son crafted the idea of an upscale lounge offering great food and drinks alike. The restaurant/lounge is a freestanding building with an elegantly decorated interior. Unique, abstract artwork is displayed throughout, chandeliers hang from the ceiling and the bar area is just ideal featuring 15 seats, two flat screen TV’s and a drink menu that will blow you away.

Their drink menu features a variety of options including frozen drinks, tap and bottled beers and roughly 20 specialty martinis. We were lucky enough to sample a few of their signature, delicious martinis including the X-Presso (above left), Crème Brule (above right), Lemon Drop (below left), Sugar Plum (second from left),  French Kiss (second from right) and our favorite – the Dragon Fruit Martini (below right).

One thing we must point out right off the bat is how superb the service is here. The wait staff is incredibly attentive and friendly, leaving us sincerely impressed. It just so happens there was also live music on the night of our visit allowing us to enjoy soft, relaxing tunes as we dined.

Upon being greeted and seated we were presented a classic breadbasket filled with an assortment of fresh rolls (below left).

We began our dining experience with five noteworthy appetizers beginning with the Grilled Shrimp and Eggplant (above right). Topped with bleu cheese and pesto sauce, the combination of flavors was just spectacular! The shrimp were plump and tender, yet had an enjoyably firm crunch and the eggplant was soft and clearly fresh. This appetizer would serve as a great start to any meal.

The Fresh Mozzarella and Portobello Mushroom appetizer is layered Napoleon style composed of fresh mozzarella cheese, Portobello mushrooms and beefsteak tomatoes – all smothered in a tasty pesto sauce (below left). The presentation was appealing and all ingredients were extremely fresh and nicely seasoned. It is an extremely light, delectable starter.

Arriving next were the Oysters Rockefeller (above right). Before reaching the meaty oyster you’ll have to get through the delicious medley of spinach, cheese and bacon first. The first bite is warm and delicious and it just gets better from there. The oysters were juicy and cooked to perfection and the spinach presented a nice creamy sensation, deeming this a standout appetizer in our eyes.

We can surely see why Spiro’s Famous Baked Clams are considered famous (below left). The chopped clams are blended within the tasty stuffing and combined with a hint of the added squeezed lemon presents a plethora of appetizing flavors.

Rounding out our appetizers was the Shrimp Athenian (above right). Prepared with fresh tomatoes and anisette and served with a helping of wild rice, this is yet another beautifully presented appetizer. The shrimp were delicately butterflied and the blend of the sweetness from the tomatoes and the creaminess of the feta cheese gave an excellent “tomato soup like” base to the sauce that bathed the shrimp.

Our first entrée was the flavorful, aged New York Strip (below). The alluring smell as the dish approached our table immediately enticed our taste buds. Served with a side of fresh asparagus and carrots, the cut was thick, tender and extremely flavorful.

The Salmon is a great catch on the menu (below left)! It is exceptionally fresh, succulent and cut with just the light touch of a fork. The seasoning was done just right and this health conscious entrée is served with fresh green beans, carrots and some lemon for those who enjoy some added flavor.

Our final entrée was found on the specials menu this particular evening. The Chicken Saltimbocca (above right) features tender chicken breast topped with prosciutto and mushrooms and bathed in a flavorsome Marsala wine sauce. It was presented alongside sautéed spinach and carrots and proved to be a very reliable chicken dish.

The dessert menu at Spiro’s Lounge features a variety of decadent endings for you to end your meal with including a number of desserts, “night caps”, specialty coffees, cordials and cognacs. The four treats we sampled were made in house beginning with the Strawberry Romanoff (below left). This treat presents whipped strawberry mousse, grand marnier and strawberry liquor, dressed with fresh, sliced strawberries. The strawberries dipped in the whipped cream create a real treat for everyone with a longing sweet tooth.

The Cannoli’s are tastefully topped with vanilla and chocolate sauce and sprinkled with delicious shavings of chocolate (above right). The shell was nice and crunchy and combined with the creamy interior was a homemade delight.

Presented martini style, the Chocolate Mousse is very rich and served with a pirouette rolled wafer and chocolate shavings (below left). The presentation makes the dessert all the more enticing as it offers a modern, exciting way to enjoy this classic treat.

While all the desserts are truly impressive, our top recommendation is the New York Style Cheese Cake (above right). This outstanding dessert was unbelievably creamy with a hint of orange essence. We could not bare to leave one bite uneaten, despite how full we were!

After being impressed as we reviewed Sea Basin, the sister restaurant of Spiro’s Lounge, we jumped at the opportunity to come check this place out! The food and service here is equally impressive and bar area is the ideal place to come watch your favorite sporting event or even for just a night out with friends. In a short amount of time, Spiro’s Lounge has already made a name for itself out in Rocky Point.
